There isn’t a chance that there will be snow for the holidays here in Singapore and I suppose that isn’t a terrible thing since we aren’t prepared for it in the tropics. What we do miss is the fun f the snow and the beauty of the flakes. Here’s a little project to do with kids that is simple and the results can be outstanding.
Once you’ve made your wonderful snowflakes, you can hang them in the house, on the Christmas tree or dress up the dinner table with a few snowflakes. Another nice thing to do is to glue them onto the front of your notebook covers or folders. Don’t forget that you can vary the size of your flakes by using bigger or smaller paper.
What you need:- Square paper
- Scissors
- Paint brush
- Glue
- Glitter
What to do:- Start with a square piece of white paper
- Hold it so that one corner faces up and fold the paper in half bringing the two side corners together.
- Hold the centre and bring the bottom corner up to the top. Crease the fold.
- Still holding the centre, fold the two corners together one more time.
- Now with your scissors start cutting shapes out of the sides of the paper. You can open your paper and see what the cuts look like open. It may take a few pieces to get the hang of the design but really there is not right or wrong here and children often stumble on the most wonderful designs.
- Open up the paper to see the final snowflake.
- Lay the snowflake on a newspaper and slightly brush glue over the paper with a paint brush. Really go lightly as you want just thin streaks of glue.
- Sprinkle silver glitter on the snowflake.
- Once dry, you can use the snowflake however you choose.
